The initial response to becoming self-employed is relief. There is freedom from the pressures applied by employers and, quite often, co-workers. Deadlines are no longer pressing. There is no longer an anxiety about achieving and maintaining certain goals in the hope of recognition or a promotion. That is, until you realise that it is now up to you to set deadlines. It is now up to you to set your own attainable goals in order to ensure that your business is a success. You realise that communications and relations with others are still equally, if not more so, crucial, in order to build the reputation of your business. If you have a family and are working from home, your role of employment will quickly merge with your roles as partner and parent.
